Protect Intellectual Freedom & Parental Rights at Mohave County Libraries

At the February 17th Mohave County Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Gould motioned to pause the acceptance of donations for 30 days. This would allow his staff to determine if THEY believe certain books are appropriate for the library's collection.  The board approved his motion unanimously.

At the upcoming meeting on March 2nd, Supervisor Gould is proposing to remove a total of 20 library books.

We urge the Mohave County Board of Supervisors to accept all library donations 'as is’, enabling staff to resume the board-approved process for reviewing and adding new materials.

Why is this important?

It’s already handled by professional librarians.
Mohave County Library follows American Library Association and Arizona Library Association professional standards, and has a formal Review of Library Materials policy to address community concerns. This work is already performed by our team of trained, certified librarians.

It’s government overreach.
Putting five elected officials in charge of which donated books reach library shelves bypasses professional expertise, wastes taxpayer resources, and delays community access to donated materials.

It threatens our freedom to read.
When a library is politically filtered, it is no longer a public library; it’s a censored one. True public service requires providing every resident with a professionally curated, diverse range of materials.

It undermines parental rights.
Arizona law gives PARENTS THE RIGHT to direct their children’s education- not the government. Restoring the existing selection process puts that choice back where it belongs: with families.

Trust the experts. Respect our rights. Keep our library public.
