November Banned Book Club

Continuing our Elana K. Arnold streak from last month, we're reading What Girls Are Made Of.

This YA novel was a finalist for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature and was described as "Unflinchingly candid, unapologetically girl, and devastatingly vital" by the Kirkus Review. Yet for all that, it is banned in schools in Utah, although not statewide in other states.

The book revolves around Nina, who is told by her mother that unconditional love doesn't exist. But now she's dating, in love, and will do anything to keep him. When he breaks up with her, she's devastated and determined to figure out what the conditions of love are.
