January Banned Book Club

We'll be reading Blankets by Craig Thompson, an autobiographical YA graphic novel about a young man coming of age. The reader follows Craig as he falls in love for the first time and wrestles with the conflict it creates with his strict religious upbringing. That is the barest skimming of the story, as we also see his relationship with his younger brother and how he engages with his own art. It has received multiple awards, including the Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album and the Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist.
The publisher describes it as,
Blankets is the story of a young man coming of age and finding the confidence to express his creative voice. Craig Thompson's poignant graphic memoir plays out against the backdrop of a Midwestern winterscape: finely-hewn linework draws together a portrait of small town life, a rigorously fundamentalist Christian childhood, and a lonely, emotionally mixed-up adolescence.
